BOS Ice Tea is a beverage company based in South Africa and are initiating an interactive strategy to promote their product by inventing a Twitter activated vending machine.
The vending machine is treated more like a female robot and is named “BEV.” She is treated much like a rock star by going on her very first ice tea tour. BEV was first unveiled at Wembley Square in Cape Town.
Here’s how it works: You send a tweet to the machine using the Twitter handle (@BOS) including hashtag #Bostweet4T. Then the vending machine will supply you a free sample of BOS Ice Tea. The Twitter app on your phone must have its geo-location setting turned on in order for it to effectively work. Why? The machine needs to read that you are actually nearby before it can dispense a free can of ice tea.
BEV has many assets including her charming personality, a camera to capture images of her fans, and a microphone to assist the sound-active LED screen to her read tweets. If you’d like to know where BEV is touring right now, check out BOS Ice Tea’s Facebook page and Twitter.
Cow Africa was the marketing agency that conceptualized this idea of a vending machine. BOS states that this twitter-activated sampling robot is the first invented in the world.
